Bianca Alvarez, Creative Director of Pixelittle, worked with Filmmaker and activist Paola Mendoza to bring to life the stories of Mario, Fedelina, and five more immigrants in NYC who passed away during the pandemic while serving the community while having some of the most challenging jobs at the time. They were taxi drivers, delivery drivers, entertainers. They got sick while working at grocery stores so we could continue to eat in quarantine, or while cleaning our homes, offices, and hospitals.
Paola visited their families and recorded hours of video and audio, learning more about their hardworking lives and all the sacrifices they made for their families. Bianca listened to all those tapes and created a series of beautiful portraits to honor their lives, the inspiration, and the legacy they left behind.
The portraits were featured in Soho NYC and as a solo exhibit in the Lower East Side’s Parasol Projects Gallery. It also traveled to Washington, D.C.
